Filipino X Indonesian Lunch

Saturday August 12th, that was a very beautiful day. I woke up early at 5 am as usual but after having a preayer I went to bed again because there was nothing to do until 9 am. Knock knock! I heard someone was knocking the door, that must be Ma'am Jeanettee and practicumers from Ateneo de Naga University. Before, they promised to visit our dormitory. They said that we would cook some Indonesian and Filipino foods. Wow! I was excited. They arrived in our dormitory around 9 am. They helped us buying some materials to teach in the Master Square Department Store. We went there by a car but before, we took some pictures in front of the King Church ADNU. We decided to take a picture because the weather was not really hot. Here are our pictures.

Someone was calling us using a yellow car, she was Ate Marian (Ate : Older sister). Firstly we went to Master Suare to buy some utensils for teaching. The store was not really far from our dormitory. It took about 10 minutes to be there. We bought colored papers, scrapbook, pens, and many other things. My Filipino friend said that in the store we could find anything we need especially for our teaching materials. There were only few people buying some utensils.
It took for about 20 minutes for us to buy the things. We went to the public market then to buy vegetables. We decided to cook Pecel and Bakwan becasuse we still have stocks for Pecel sauce that we bought in Indonesia. The sauce would be good untill a month. We only needed to pour hot water on it. We also decided to cook bakwan because that was the easiest one to cook and the materials are available in the market. Therefore, our Filipino friends decided to cook Chicken Adobo, one of their traditional foods. Filipino usually cook Pork Adobo but since two of us were muslim, so they kindly made the chicken. It took for about an hour to find and buy everything in the market. The price was cheaper compared to the supermarket, yes ofcourse :D . Unfortunately we did not take any picture of the market because we were busy with our groceries. So, I put a picture from google so you will know the situation of the market. It was big, about two floors and car parking area and vegetables area were on the rooftop.

We already finished buying everything to cook so we went to our dorm. Filipino there were surprised to see we bought many chilies. They were afraid if I would cook spicy foods. They did not used to eat spicy foods.:D We started to cook. It took about an hour but we had to turn off the air conditioner so that was very warm inside. The chicken adobo also contained potatoes and banana. What? banana? Yes, banana. Filipino were keen to put banana as main dishes, not only as a fruit. How about the taste? Of course that was so delicious. I thought I would try to cook them when I already arrived in Indonesia. Tadaa! That was the chicken adobo.

They could not wait to eat but still we had time to take some pictures.

Yes we have finished eating but then they surprised me with Chili ice cream. They knew Indonesian here in the dorm were very keen of spicy foods so they bought me Chili ice cream level 3. Many filipinos challenged me to eat that but they did not take even a little. It was okay, the ice cream was delicious as well. They asked me, "How if you sell the ice cream in Indonesia? Do you think it will be popular?" Of course I answered "Yes" because in Indonesia we also had Rujak Eskrim. I though that Indonesian people would like it. The price was 550 Pesos for the big one. Unfortunately I would not be able to bring it to Indonesia because it would be melted during the trip :( I hope someday there would be Chili ice cream too in Indonesia.
